This week through #HospiceVisits we highlight MES Impilo Care Centre. MES a non-profit organisation (NPO). They are well established primary health care facility providing HIV, AIDS and TB-related treatment, care and support services.
They also have a well-established community-oriented primary health care programme that monitors and proactively works towards the improved health and wellbeing of families in the surrounding areas. Fortified porridge and fresh vegetables are what they provide to the chronically ill and malnourished patients as well as to underweight TB, HIV and AIDS patients.
Daily meals are served to their inpatients as well. Impilo runs a weekly support group for TB and HIV-positive people. Home-based care services for sick people and support for their vulnerable family members are provided and they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their services are free of charge as well.
We had the chance of chatting to Nancy Rasebeshela, who explained to us her journey at MES Impilo. In 2001 she started as a volunteer and then in 2002 she progressed in her role and got employed on a permanent basis. Nancy expressed the positive difference that MES make in the community and the impact she can see. “Kids from the street get fed by us and we are able to build them up and help them get off the street” she said.
She made reference to one particular patient who had a CD4 count of 1 when he was admitted into Impilo’s in-patient unit. He stayed a patient of theirs for 4 years and recovered radically. He now has a job and is happily married.
Nancy is extremely proud to be associated with MES Impilo and loves making a difference in the community that she works in.
