Mary Buttle was a nursing sister at Vergelegen Mediclinic in Somerset West and she trained in palliative care at Helderberg Hospice receiving the certificate for the Short Course in Palliative Nursing Care in 1999.
Sadly, she developed pancreatic cancer and she and her husband moved to Jersey to be with their youngest daughter and her family for the last weeks of her life. She was under the care of the Jersey Hospice staff and finally the Clarkson Home. Mary’s story tells of her family coming together from different parts of the world for her birthday and of the care she received from hospice. A brave and heart-warming story!
