As we conclude our #HospiceVisits at MES Impilo Care Centre, today we catch up with one of their carers.
1. Where are you originally from?
I was born and bred in Rustenburg before moving to Gauteng.
2.What do you do at MES Impilo Care Centre?
I am currently employed as Community Care Worker and have been with the organisation for the past 12 years. During this period I can honestly say that I have grown tremendously.
3.How did you find out about MES Impilo Care Centre?
As a student I needed to gain practical experience in the working environment. I was living on the same premises of MES and decided to approach one of the nurses and was very fortunate to be accepted which eventually resulted in me becoming a full time employee.
4.What are some of the services you offer patients in the community you work in?
In home based care, we as carers ensure that all our patients receive the best possible care. We provide the community with informative health talks, counselling and offer support group sessions. These are just some of the services we provide.
5.Is there any stigma attached when you visit the community?
NO. people understand what we about and the work we do. They know that we are here to help so there is absolutely no stigma attached and they are very supportive.
6.Highlights working as a carer?
One of the highlights for me is knowing that you made a difference in the community – knowing you did something good.
