35-Year Relationship Mobilises Health Care

For 35 years a very special relationship has existed that helps to bring the Highway Hospice’s famous care to the community of Durban.

Many people do not know, but a backbone of the Highway Hospice program is their Home Care project.  These renowned nurses climb into their cars ever morning and travel around eThekwini providing care for the terminally ill.  At present, about 650 patients and their families benefit.

When you stand in the carpark, you will notice that they are pretty much all Ford motor vehicles.  This is where the magic is tangible, as Barloworld Ford in Pinetown and Pietermaritzburg have stepped up to the plate for 35 years in providing reliable and trustworthy cars for the nurses.

The Cave family have been the champions of the cause and there are three generations of Cave’s who work tirelessly to arrange a sporting weekend at the Wild Coast Sun every year.  They coordinate the entire event and produce a seamless experience for the loyal supporters.

John’o Olds, the head of Fundraising & Marketing at The Highway Hospice told us, “It is an absolute highlight of the year, it is a very special group of people all raising funds for our Hospice.  It is more than just fun and games, the generosity is truly touching and so important to us!”  The event has produced R305,000 this year, which is enough for 2 vehicles for the Home Care Team.
