The Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa in collaboration with the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) will host a tweetchat on Childhood Cancer on Thursday, 28 September at 15H00 GMT.
The month of September is International Childhood Cancer Awareness month where organisations and individuals around the world come together to raise awareness of childhood cancer. Whilst many are going gold, the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa in collaboration with the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) will host a tweetchat on the condition.
Participants can look forward to a wealth of knowledge by guest Dr Julia Ambler, Palliative Care Specialist and Deputy Director of Umduduzi – Hospice Care for Children. The South African based specialist co-founded Umduduzi in January 2013. She is a sessional lecturer for the Department of Paediatrics at the University of KwaZulu Natal and lectures on palliative care for 4th, 5th and 6th year students. Dr Ambler has been involved in teaching and training doctors, nurses and social workers in paediatric palliative care and designed course work material for the purpose as well as provides direct services to children and their families. She will also be representing PatchSA, the national organisation for children’s palliative care in South Africa.
The hour long tweetchat will cover a range of topics, including:
- Building resilience in children with cancer
- How do we support children to cope better with pain and illness
- Non-pharmacological management of pain in children
- The usefulness of morphine
The tweetchat will take place on Thursday, 28 September 2017 at 15h00 GMT (17h00 South African time). Join in the conversation by using the hashtag #hpcachat.
