Overstrand Hospice recently ran a successful Introductory Palliative Care Course for health care professionals who included doctors, nurses, an occupational therapist, psychologist and social worker.
Participants come from afar as Kimberley, Riviersonderend and Gansbaai.
The aim of the course is to teach the principles and practices of current palliative care practices, and how the various disciplines might integrate these into their own health care settings. The participants found the course contents, role plays and reflections extremely valuable and helpful in terms of them being ‘enabled’ to provide treatment and care to patients and families living with a life-threatening illness.
