Event Overview: Compassionate communities play a pivotal role in caring for individuals, enabling them to remain in their homes, connecting them to essential services, and raising awareness about end-of-life issues. In recent years, we have witnessed the growth of compassionate communities worldwide, making a significant impact on how we approach palliative care. We firmly believe that the synergy between palliative care and compassionate communities amplifies our capacity to meet the needs of the most vulnerable within our communities.
Agenda Highlights:
- 10:00 AM – 10:05 AM: Dr. Julia Ambler, PALPRAC Chairperson, will deliver the opening welcome.
- 10:05 AM – 10:20 AM: Engage in a “Creativity Wake-Up” fun ice-breaker.
- 10:20 AM – 10:30 AM: Sr. Kerene Payne from Cape Town will provide an overview of the concept of “Compassionate Communities.”
- 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM: International Panel discussion featuring experts from around the world, exploring the concept of compassionate communities and how they are being implemented in various regions.
- 11:30 AM – 11:45 AM: Enjoy a tea break with an informative video.
- 11:45 AM – 12:15 PM: Dr. Christian Ntzimera, Founder/Executive Director of ACREOL, will discuss his book, “The Safari Concept: An African Framework for End-of-Life Care.”
- 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM: Dr. Jennie Morgan and Heideveld community members will share insights on integrating palliative care into local communities.
- 12:45 PM – 1:00 PM: Audience sharing of local experiences and inspirations facilitated by Drs. Shannon Odell and Jayne Cunningham.
- 1:00 PM – 1:05 PM: Dr. Julia Ambler will announce the raffle winners and deliver closing remarks.
- 1:05 PM – 1:15 PM: Dr. Raksha Balbadhur will lead a compassionate meditation.
We believe this event will provide invaluable insights into the intersection of palliative care and compassionate communities. Furthermore, we are delighted to feature an interview with Dr. Christiaan Ntzimera, the author of “The Safari Concept,” shedding light on innovative approaches to end-of-life care in Africa.
