It represents the hope that all of those lost to cancer will never be forgotten; that those who are fighting cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated.The event was organised by the CANSA Hospice of Polokwane where the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA) was invited to participate on Friday, 23 October 2015.

The provincial manager of Limpopo, Mr. Gandi Moetlo was at the walk and loved the ambiance of the occasion.

The occasion was attended and supported by the Honourable MEC of Health, Dr P. Ramathuba, who addressed the attendances, including over 50 cancer survivors, and a crowd of about 350 supporters. The MEC emphasised the importance of working together in the fight against cancer, and stressed the continuous support of those living with the different type’s pf cancer, as well as the families affected.

Most of the supporters were from families of those affected from cancer, and those who survived it as well. Business sectors, church organisations, Polokwane municipality, developmental partners and department of Health officials accompanied by MEC were all present at this auspicious event.

The highlight of the occasion was when everyone lit their candles in remembrance of those affected by cancer, and those who have lost lives to cancer. It was a very emotional moment, especially to those personally affected.

The organiser, Mr David Booth, challenged everybody present to support the campaign in any form, by conducting continuous campaigns and support, in making our community aware of the prevention and management of cancer, and a need to support all families affected by the condition.

All supporters took numerous walking rounds within the stadium from 18h00 until early hours of Saturday.

It was a fantastic event and one that will indeed by attended by HPCA in the future.
