Bereavement support course
The Bereavement Support Course was developed by the Association of Palliative Care Centres and is intended for use both within palliative care settings and in the wider community of South Africa. Bereavement Support is also considered to be a necessary aspect of preventative health; a supported family is less likely to suffer a breakdown and individuals may be less likely to fall into depression after the death of a loved one.
Format: Face-to-face and online.
Duration: The Face-To-Face Course runs for a week but can be completed one day per week (for six weeks)
NQF Level: Postgraduate
Accreditation Body: SACSSP: Approved for 31 CPD points for social workers for both Face-To-Face & E-Learning.
Target Audience: Suitable for all professionals, qualified counsellors or experienced lay counsellors in work settings where bereavement support is required or would be potentially required across South African communities.
Course availability: Face to Face courses will take place according to demand (when there is a minimum of 15 people signed up in specific regions), with a maximum number of 25 participants per training session.

Introduction to palliative care for professionals
This short course will equip you as a healthcare professional to assess and manage patients living with life-threatening and life-limiting illness, to improve their quality of life and to support their families. Thus enhancing the quality of your services and patient relationships.
Format: Face-to-face and online
Duration: 40 hours
NQF Level: Postgraduate
Accreditation Body: UCT 30 CEU and accepted as standardised by the Western Cape Department of Health
CPD Points: 30 CPD points (25 General and 5 Ethics) from Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA) and 20 CPD points from South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP) for 2024/2025.
Target Audience: Medical Officers, Registered Professional Nurses, Clinical Nurse Practitioners and social and allied workers
Closing Date for Registration: No closing date – Minimum 15 up to a maximum of 20 participants per training session.

NQF Level: Short Course
Accreditation Body: The training is registered with APCC as an attendance short course at NQF level 3.
Target Audience: Enrolled Nursing Assistants, caregivers and homebased carers
Closing Date for Registration: No closing date – Maximum of 15 learners per training session to conform with social distancing guidelines
Quality council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO)
Occupational certificate in home-based care
Format: Face-to-face (complying with social distancing guidelines)
Duration:
Full qualification – 5 Knowledge Modules, 6 Practical Modules, 8 Workplace Experience Modules
(1350 notational hours over 1 year)
Part qualification – 1 Knowledge Module, 3 Practical Skills Modules, 4 Workplace Experience Modules
(680 notational hours over 6 months)

Accreditation Body: The students who successfully pass the External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) will be issued with a Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) qualification.
Target Audience: Anyone wishing to pursue a career as a caregiver.
Learners enrolling to do the full qualification (NQF3) must have Grade 12 schooling with English or any other grade with Foundational Learning Competence (FLC).
Learners enrolling to do the part qualification (NQF2) must have a qualification at Abet Level 4 or Grade 9 Schooling

Psychosocial Palliative Care Course
Format: Face-to-face and online
Duration: The Face-to-Face course runs for a week, but can be completed a day a week (for 8 weeks). The e-learning course is approximately 2 hours a week over 11 weeks.
Accreditation Body: SACSSP: Approved for 22.5 CPD Points for both face-to-face and e-learning.
Target Audience: Social Science graduates, social workers, theologists, psychologists, occupational therapist, dietitians, speech therapists.
Face to Face courses will take place according to demand (when there is a minimum of 15 people signed up in specific regions), with a maximum number of 25 participants per training session.
Online courses take place regularly. The next courses are planned for:
