World Hospice Palliative Care Day 2024

World Hospice Palliative Care Day 2024

2nd hand goods for 1st class care

Our slogan was provided by Breede River Hospice, as an entry into a friendly competition with all the members that own charity shops.
Well done to them for supplying the perfect slogan – which is already used for their charity shops in Montagu and Robertson. It perfectly encapsulates the importance of each of these member-owned stores

Each one of the purchases from a member-owned shop financially contributes to the provision of palliative care services!

All people who are diagnosed with a life-limiting illness can benefit from palliative care. Adults and children with chronic conditions such as HIV/AIDS, drug-resistant TB, chronic respiratory diseases, cardiovascular and neuromuscular diseases, MND and more.

With the mission to provide access to palliative care for all, the members provide care to everyone.

Some Medical Aids pay for the services provided to their members, some people pay for themselves, and some people are subsidised by the APCC member.

This is why your shop purchases mean so much – they are helping provide access to palliative care.

Below is a list of all the expenses that are incurred every month.

Whilst the actual percentage of total expense will differ according to the member, this list applies to every, single palliative care centre and hospice.

The APCC definition of palliative care is:

The physical, psychological, social and spiritual care provided by an inter-disciplinary team of experts to anyone with a life-threatening illness and their families. Care is offered from the point of diagnosis and extends to bereavement support if needed. Over 90% of the care that APCC members provide is home-based with a focus on promoting quality of life.
