APCC Visual Storytelling Exchange

APCC Visual Storytelling Exchange

Strengthen sector visibility through authentic, member-generated imagery

APCC would like to build a national library of authentic, high-quality photographs that reflect the real work, people,
and environments of palliative care across South Africa.

The APCC’s current communications rely heavily on stock imagery. While functional, stock photos cannot capture the depth, dignity, and humanity that define palliative care. They do not reflect the lived reality of our members, nor do they honour the people who deliver care every day.

This initiative seeks to change that by inviting members to contribute photographs that the APCC can use across:

How it Works

Members submit photographs & stand a chance to win prizes

Members can submit images monthly or quarterly via a simple, mobile-friendly upload form.

What kind of photographs are we looking for?

Care in action
(with consent)

Teamwork & Collaboration

Home-based care in action

Volunteers supporting families

Community Outreach

Training & Development Sessions

Moments of dignity, comfort, or connection

The environment of care (gardens, rooms, equipment, spaces)

Symbolic or contextual images (hands, light, nature, community scenes)

Photos do not need to be professionally taken. Mobile phone quality is perfectly acceptable.

What to avoid?

To protect patients and staff, please avoid:

Images that show the faces of patients without explicit written consent.
Images that reveal private medical information.
Images that include minors without written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
Photos taken without the knowledge of the person being photographed.

Technical guidelines

Horizontal or vertical photos are both acceptable.
Ensure the image is clear and not blurry.
Avoid heavy filters or editing.
Natural light is best.
Aim for a file size of around 1MB. This is high-resolution and mobile phones can take these.

Each photo submitted earns one entry into the quarterly draw.
More submissions = more entries.
