Midlands Hospice

What are the achievements that you are most proud of?
  • That we still function!
  • That we have a stable workforce. We manage to retain skill.
  • We have a credible reputation with doctors and oncologists in our community.
  • The addition of two more preloved shops in the past 5 years has increased our sustainability significantly.
What are the obstacles that you may have had to overcome to achieve these?
  • Gradual loss of international funds over the past 10 years.
  • The perceived threat of private palliative care practitioners – we continually remind ourselves of our values and mission and to offer the same services and standards of care regardless of whether there is medical aid benefit to us or not.
What would you still like to achieve?
  • Additional property/space and opportunity to open an In-Patient Unit.
  • Be in the fore of people’s minds – not just when life-threatening illness strikes.
  • An improved and regular donor base.
What assistance would assist you in achieving this?
  • Improved computer literacy/IT skills (some more Gen Z’s on board our team!)
  • One or two significant bequests to invest would allow us to make risky decisions with greater confidence.
