Stepping Stone Hospice

What are the achievements that you are most proud of?
- Martelise Meaker Children’s In-Patient Unit
- Association of Palliative Care Centres (APCC) accreditation
- Provided valuable training in Home Based Care and Palliative Care
- Charity Shop
What are the obstacles that you may have had to overcome to achieve these?
One of the most significant challenges we faced was the lack of funding for infrastructure, including buildings and facilities. When we first started, we had no physical structure, no equipment, and no resources. We literally began with nothing. Tersia’s home was our first location, and from there, we had to build everything from scratch.
The absence of government funding and limited financial resources meant that we had to rely on income generation and donations to sustain our services. Despite these financial constraints, we were determined to provide high-quality palliative care to our patients and their families. We had to navigate the complex landscape of palliative care while often relying on our own resilience and determination to overcome the numerous challenges we faced.
What would you still like to achieve?
Build a 14-bed adult hospice facility and continue to improve the quality of life for those we serve
What assistance would assist you in achieving this?
Monetary assistance: We urgently need funding to build a 14-bed adult hospice facility, estimated to cost R6 million for the first phase of the project.
Testimonial
“Stepping stones has looked after my sweet father that passed in 2019 and my sister in-law that passed on after fighting for 5 years .
Thank you all for taking care of them you are all angels sent from God . My father was such a gentleman and I wondered why God, why must my dad die like this . He had soficus cancer and could not eat . And after he went to meat our heavenly Father I understood. Hospice gave his such a graceful salute when the undertaker came to fetch him. Then I knew it was so special if he had died home or at hospital it would have been just a good bye . Thank you all from the bottom of my heart that you let cancer patients die in honer . May you all be blessed.“
