Sr Thandi Sililo – Head: Nursing Services:

Helped guide how we oversee the Risk & Occupational Management in our organization and how to identify risks and work on minimizing those risks. Helped us to ensure that all our quality improvement activities are documented. Helped guide and improve our medication management and every area focusing on the clinical areas. I would recommend other hospices to go through the process.

Dianne Waddington – Head of Social Services:

The accreditation process, while stringent, also holds us accountable for the services we deliver in every department of the organisation.  It does help to uphold our work to a certain standard and makes us stand out in terms of the quality of services we deliver.  When working in an organisation on a day-to-day basis, sometimes we miss important aspects and accreditation standards remind of us these aspects.

Robert de Wet – CEO:

In addition to focusing on clinical compliance, the accreditation process assesses criteria across the entire organisation, including areas relating to governance, fundraising, administration, and human resources. Subjecting your organisation to an intensive external accreditation process is important as it serves to both affirm the positive aspects of the work we do, and simultaneously makes us aware of areas in which we require more focus.

Through accreditation visits and processes such as this, we can ensure that our organisation keeps abreast with current standards, as practised globally, and we’re then able to offer, with confidence, a consistently high standard of quality care to our patients and their loved ones.

The accreditation is both necessary, and of immense value, and I encourage other hospices to take the time to invest in this important process.

We will continue to promote our full accreditation status when engaging with donors both locally and abroad.

We will continue to highlight the importance of our full accreditation status locally with our care partners and patients as a means of promoting our quality of care.

Louise Smith- Head: Resource Development

COHSASA accreditation gives credibility to Helderberg Hospice’s proud claim of offering our community “quality care for all” for 40 years.  We have been measured against stringent international standards, and our health care standards were found to be excellent.
