Stepping Stone Hospice celebrates nurses

In celebration of International Nurses’ Day on Friday, 12 May, the clinical team at Stepping Stone Hospice was treated to an ‘appreciation lunch’ at the hospice’s In-Patient Unit in New Market Park, prepared with love by Stepping Stone’s very own Clinical Services Manager, Sr Sheryl Newman and CEO, Tersia Burger.

“This is a very special day as we celebrate you and all you do here at this wonderful place we have created together,” said Tersia Burger to the clinical staff present. “We honour you for the work you do, for the love and compassion you show our patients and their families, and for the emotional strength you display when you have to say goodbye over and over again. You are all magnificent,” she added.

International Nurses’ Day is named after Florence Nightingale who was born on 12 May 1820, and is respected and honoured for changing the face of nursing from a mostly untrained profession to a highly-skilled and well-respected medical profession, as well as turning the nursing profession into patient-centred work.
